How to stream movies to Android with MoviePlayerApp and MP4 Streaming Server.

Requirements:
1. MoviePlayerApp 2.5, installed on your device.
MoviePlayerApp can be found in the Amazon Appstore.
2. MP4 Streaming Server 1.5, installed on a computer running a recent (XP, 2003, Vista, 8, 8.1, 10) version of Microsoft Windows.

3. Movies on your computer in MP4 format that is compatible with the device you want to use for playback of your movies.
Setup:
1. Download and install MP4 Server on your computer.
After install run the application using the shortcut on your desktop.
If you store your MP4 movies in a common location on your computer, such as your Documents or Videos folder, MP4 Streaming Server will offer to scan those locations for you, and add MP4 files it finds,
but you can of course add your videos manually as well.
now with your content added in MP4 Streaming Server, simply click on the globe icon at the bottom right to start the server.
which will automatically display the server connection link on the side.
This link is how you can access the movies from just about any device with a web browser that can play MP4 files. Even on devices where MoviePlayerApp is not available for (yet), such as Windows Phone, Windows RT, Apple iPhone, Blackberry etc, you can still access your movies without having to copy them over to your device by just entering that link into the web browser.
But to make it look cool, you need an Android device running MoviePlayerApp:
After you download and install MoviePlayerApp on your Android device, it will look for movies on your device. If it doesn't find any, it will display a collection of trailers streamed from our website.
To connect MoviePlayerApp to your newly set-up MP4 Streaming Server, follow these steps:
1. Start MoviePlayerApp
2. Select the Settings icon at the bottom right
3. In the settings (there are a lot of things to play with here) scroll down to near the bottom and look for the MP4 Streaming Server settings:
4. Tap on the 'Location' option, and here, enter the numbers displayed at the bottom of MP4 Streaming Server:
Note 1: the http:// and the :80 in the link can be skipped, only type in the numbers with the dots.
Note 2: the 192.168.1.165 differs per computer, so make sure you use the one MP4 Streaming Server displays for you, and do not just use the 192.168.1.165 displayed in the screenshots.
5. After entering the location, make sure you enable the checkmark for the connection as well.
6. Exit (back button of your device) out of the settings, and then select the 'Refresh Content' button in MoviePlayerApp at the bottom right:
which will force MoviePlayerApp to look for videos on your device (as well as with the newly setup MP4 Server connection).

7. If you have done everything correctly, you should end up with something similar to this:or this:
and you can tap/select/slide/scroll the movie you want to watch.
Making it look cool:
The screenshots above look completely different from the one at the top. To make it look cool and include cover images and background images, we have to add them.
You can use the cover-image search button,
to have MoviePlayerApp automatically look for cover-images on the web for your movie,
but for streaming, especially if you use more than one device, or upgrade once in a while, it is easier to store the images along with your movies.
This also enables you to include background images for each of your movies as well, making it a lot more fun to browse your movies.
To do so, simply copy an image with the same name as the movie in the same location. If your movie is called 'myMovie.mp4', the cover image for the movie should be called 'myMovie.jpg'. To include a background image for your movie, name it 'myMovie_bg.jpg'.
So for each of your movies you would have 2 images, one for the cover, and the other for the background,

and if you refresh MoviePlayerApp on your device, it will display the images you added:
As mentioned above, the advantage of adding the images to the videos on your computer, rather than using the build-in cover-image search of MoviePlayerApp is that the images will remain, even if you use a different device to access them. If you upgrade your tablet, or maybe pick up something new, just an install of MoviePlayerApp along with the MP4 Server connection is all you need in order to get the videos and the images back.

Troubleshooting information:
* Because the content is stored on your computer, you need to leave your computer on (not sleep or standby) in order to be able to access your movies on your Android device. Of course, if you copy the movies you want to watch over to your device (if possible), this is not needed, but then your movies will take up a fair share of your device's memory. For MoviePlayerApp, it doesn't make a difference if you store them on your device or on your computer, it will find them either way.
* The MP4 Server connection only works if your device is connected to the same network/router at your home. You can not watch your movies from a different location such as a coffee shop or over at a friend/family's house.
* Depending on what device you use, you might run into an error message 'streaming not enabled' when trying to play a video file. If you encounter this, select the movie on MP4 Streaming Server, and tap the lightning-bolt icon to enable streaming on the video file.
* If you use high quality images, it is possible that scrolling through your video collection in MoviePlayerApp is slow or stuttering. It is also possible that some images (really high quality) don't load at all. Because images are loaded over your network, the larger the files are, the longer it takes to transfer them from your computer to your device. MoviePlayerApp does cache these images on your device, so after scrolling through your videos, things should be considerably smoother, but if your images are too large, it could still cause complications.
For best results, make the backgrounds the same size (or a little less) as the screen size you are viewing them on. On some devices with an HD resolution it is possible to display images up to 4x that size, but it slows things down unneeded.
For cover images, use a maximum height of about 70% of the height of the screen (700 for a 1080 screen or so), and if that doesn't help, you can turn off 'rounded corners' and 'mirror' in MoviePlayerApp's settings to speed things up a bit as well.
To resize images quickly and easy, we recommend Image Resizer for Windows (link). After install, a simple rightclick on your images gives you the option to resize your pictures:
After which, you can select 'Custom' and enter your own desired sizes:

For the images used in the sample trailers for MoviePlayerApp, we used 1280 x 720 for the background images, and 600 x 400 for the cover images, which should have them look and work great on the majority of different devices.
